Biography of Susan Murphy
In 1996 I did a practicum placement in the basement of a little Anglican Church in St. John’s, NL. Two older retired teachers ran a Pre-School program there. I was captivated by the amount of independence, confidence, and level of contentment the children displayed. These ladies had set up an environment where children had easy access to resources, developmentally appropriate learning opportunities, and educators as play partners. They had set the children up for success. I knew at that moment I would one day have my own Pre-School program and bring as much joy of learning, desire to explore, and passion for play as these ladies had.
During the last 21 years as an Educator life has afforded me many wonderful opportunities to be a private nanny to a family, work in various Daycare programs, operate my own family day home program, work in various At-Risk Youth programs, and work as a director for the YMCA of Northern Alberta-Grande Prairie. It has been a great professional journey that has brought learning, challenges and fulfillment. One of my greatest joys in life has been Mother to my son Liam and wife to my husband Paul. It is truly a team effort that has brought this dream together – Team Murphy.
It is with great anticipation that I step into the role of owner and operator of the Early Years program. I look forward to meeting many more families and building further relationships in the City of Grande Prairie, Alberta. Together we are a community.
